Every pick has a job. The 3-Step is products 1 to 3, the 5-Step adds products 4 and 5, and the 7-Step adds products 6 and 7. Here’s what each one does and why we chose it for you.
A gentle gel cleanser with a low pH that works with your skin, plus a touch of BHA and tea tree to keep pores fresh. It cleans without that squeaky, tight feeling.
Why it’s in your routine: A gentle, mildly acidic gel cleanser built on mild cleansers (cocamidopropyl betaine and sodium lauroyl methyl isethionate) that lifts oil and daily grime without a tight, squeaky feel. It also carries a touch of BHA (betaine salicylate) and tea tree leaf oil, both low in the ingredient list and rinsed off in seconds, so the effect is mild. Tea tree leaf oil is an essential oil, so patch test first and skip it if you are sensitive to essential oils or salicylates.
How to use: Wet your face, foam a small amount in your hands and massage for 30 to 60 seconds, avoiding the eyes, then rinse with lukewarm water. At night it is your main cleanse in the 3-Step and 5-Step, and your second cleanse after the balm in the 7-Step.
Girl tip 💡 A pea-sized amount is plenty. Massage for 30 seconds, then rinse with lukewarm water.
A leave-on BHA liquid that gets into pores to help them look clearer and smaller, with smoother-feeling texture. A simple, no-fuss texture step.
Why it’s in your routine: Betaine salicylate, a gentler salicylic-acid-type BHA high in the ingredient list, is oil-soluble, so it can work inside pores to loosen dead-skin and oil build-up and help blackheads and congestion look reduced with regular use. Niacinamide, panthenol and sodium hyaluronate cushion it. It is a true leaf-on exfoliant, so start with one night a week, keep to non-consecutive nights and wear sunscreen every morning.
How to use: On clean, dry skin, smooth a thin layer over your face with clean hands or a cotton pad, focusing on the T-zone and clogged-feeling spots and avoiding the eyes and lips. Leave it on (no rinsing) and wait a few minutes for it to absorb before the next step.
Girl tip 💡 Apply to dry skin and give it a few minutes to work before your next step.
A lightweight gel-cream with niacinamide, panthenol, centella, madecassoside and ceramide to help skin feel soothed and comfortable and look calmer. It works as your last or near-last step, morning or night.
Why it’s in your routine: A lightweight gel-cream with niacinamide (vitamin B3) and panthenol (pro-vitamin B5) to keep skin comfortable and looking calmer while you use exfoliants, plus glycerin and hyaluronic acid for light hydration. Tea tree leaf water, a gentle plant water and not the essential oil, is second in the ingredient list, and the finish comes from light esters and silicones rather than heavy oils. Patch test first if your skin is very reactive, and note the silicones if you prefer to avoid them.
How to use: Smooth a thin layer over your face and neck as the last step of your evening routine and before sunscreen in the morning. A little goes a long way on oily or combination skin.
Girl tip 💡 Do a quick patch test on your wrist first, then smooth it on as your last step, with sunscreen on top in the morning.
A light green tea toner that leaves oily and combo skin feeling fresh, balanced and less shiny. It’s refreshing without ever feeling stripping.
Why it’s in your routine: Green tea leaf extract leads the formula, backed by hyaluronic acid, beta-glucan, allantoin and licorice-derived dipotassium glycyrrhizate for a light, soothing, hydrating prep step that does not strip. It is a gentle toner, not an acid or an acne treatment, which is why it takes the toner slot on the nights the BHA liquid does not. It contains several plant extracts, so patch test if you are sensitive to botanicals.
How to use: After cleansing, pour a little into clean hands or onto a cotton pad and pat or sweep it over your face while skin is still slightly damp. Use it every morning and on evenings when you are not using the BHA liquid.
Girl tip 💡 Keep a cotton pad soaked in it on hot days for a quick, cooling swipe.
An ultra-light, invisible-finish sunscreen that melts right into skin with no heavy, greasy feel. Perfect if thick sunscreens make you go ew.
Why it’s in your routine: Daily broad-spectrum SPF is the partner every exfoliating routine needs, and it helps keep post-blemish marks from looking darker. This one is a light, serum-like lotion with an aloe leaf water base and niacinamide, so it feels comfortable on oily and combination skin. Witch hazel leaf water is in the formula, so patch test if your skin is very reactive.
How to use: Use about a nickel-size amount (roughly 1/4 teaspoon) for face and neck as your very last skincare step, after moisturizer, and let it settle before makeup. Reapply about every 2 hours outdoors and after sweating or swimming, as it is not water-resistant.
Girl tip 💡 Use about two finger-lengths for your face and neck, and reapply every two hours when you’re outdoors.
Ten percent azelaic acid with hyaluronic acid in a light, silky serum that helps skin look clearer, calmer and more even. Azelaic acid is a popular skincare ingredient, and this serum is made to be gentle.
Why it’s in your routine: 10% azelaic acid helps bumps and post-blemish marks look calmer and more even, and it takes the morning shift so it never shares a routine with the BHA liquid at night. Niacinamide, zinc PCA, panthenol and centella actives add comfort, and a small amount of betaine salicylate means it counts toward your exfoliant load. A little tingling in the first uses is common; ease back to every other morning if it lingers.
How to use: After toner, press in 1 to 2 drops over your face (up to 5 once skin is comfortable), then follow with cream and sunscreen. Start with two mornings a week and build up to daily as your skin allows.
Girl tip 💡 Press it in with clean fingertips and give it a minute before the next step. If it stings, skip a day and slow down.
A sherbet-like balm that turns into a silky oil to lift makeup, sunscreen and the whole day off your skin. Step one of your double cleanse, made a little bit luxe.
Why it’s in your routine: Lightweight emollient oils (cetyl ethylhexanoate and caprylic/capric triglyceride) melt sunscreen and surface oil so your gel cleanser can reach clean skin, and the ingredient list has no fragrance or essential oils. Rinse thoroughly and always do the second cleanse. Patch test first if you have an oat or soy allergy, or if you avoid PEG-based emulsifiers.
How to use: With dry hands on dry skin, massage a small scoop over your face for about a minute to melt away sunscreen and oil, add a splash of water until it turns milky, massage again and rinse. Follow straight away with the Low pH gel cleanser so no oily film is left behind.
Girl tip 💡 Scoop with clean, dry fingers and massage onto a dry face before adding water.

Why these steps?
Gentle exfoliation, not scrubbingThe BHA liquid's betaine salicylate works inside pores to loosen build-up, while the cleanser only has a touch, so you get the clog-clearing step without harsh scrubs. We keep the liquid to a few non-consecutive nights a week so skin stays comfortable. 🌿
Acids take turnsIn the 7-Step, azelaic acid goes on in the morning and the BHA liquid at night, so your two exfoliating actives never pile up in one routine. The toner covers the nights the BHA liquid sits out.
Calm, hydrate and hands offNiacinamide and panthenol in the cream keep skin feeling comfortable between acid nights, and hydrated skin copes better with exfoliants. For a pimple that has surfaced, an optional COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch (sold separately) helps keep your hands off it. 💧
SPF finishes every morningExfoliating acids make daily sunscreen a must, and it also helps keep post-blemish marks from looking darker. That is why the SPF is required with every size, and built in from the 5-Step up. ☀️
Patch test anything new on your jawline first, especially as the cleanser contains tea tree leaf oil and the cream contains tea tree leaf water. Ease into the BHA liquid with the schedule in the steps, drop back a step if skin stings, peels or feels tight, and wear a broad-spectrum SPF every morning while you use it. Avoid the BHA liquid, cleanser and toner if you are allergic to aspirin or salicylates. If you're pregnant, nursing or using prescription skin treatments, check with your doctor before adding exfoliating acids or azelaic acid.
