TWEEN + TEEN SKIN

Your skin.
Your questions.
Start simple.

For tweens, teens, and the grown-ups helping them. Learn what your skin needs, what can wait, and why.

Use what you already own. Every lesson is free to explore.

A little knowledge. A manageable routine.

MAKE IT FIT YOUR DAY

A routine you can keep up with.

Switch between morning and evening. Add the things that change your day; the steps update with an explanation.

Choose a time of day

This shows everyday care, not an acne treatment plan. If you use prescribed or over-the-counter acne medicine, follow its directions and your clinician’s guidance.

Why these basics?

THE FOUNDATION

Your morning basics

  1. Cleanse gently

Use a gentle cleanser. If your skin is dry or sensitive, an evening cleanse may be enough; you can keep the morning simple.

  2. Moisturize

Use a texture that feels comfortable on your skin. You do not need a separate hydrating serum.

  3. Protect for daytime

Broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, plus shade and protective clothing. Follow the label for application and reapplication.

THE STARTER SHELF

Three jobs. One simple shelf.

Cleanse, moisturize, protect. Here is one example for each job from our shop, plus a backup pick. You can use another brand you already own. A product does not need a β€œteen” label to do a useful job.

1 Β· Cleanse

Beauty of Joseon

Green Plum Refreshing Cleanser

$13.00

A rinse-off gel cleanser for your morning and night wash. The manufacturer lists glycerin and describes a slightly acidic gel formula. Lather on damp skin and rinse with lukewarm water.

Keep in mind: it contains botanical extracts; any formula can irritate some people. Stop if it does not agree with your skin.

2 Β· Moisturize

Isntree

Hyaluronic Acid Moist Cream 100ml

$21.00

A soft face cream with hyaluronic acid (100 ml). Here the acid is a hydrator, not an exfoliant. Smooth it over your face as your moisturizer step.

Keep in mind: pick a texture that feels comfortable on your skin. Add it on its own and test a small area first.

3 Β· Protect (daytime)

Beauty of Joseon

Relief Sun : Rice + Probiotics Sunscreen

$17.00

A daily-wear sunscreen with rice and probiotics, made to be the last step of your morning routine. Listed as SPF 50+.

Keep in mind: read the package for broad-spectrum protection, how much to use and when to reapply. Sunscreen works alongside shade and clothing.

1 Β· Cleanse (backup pick)

Round Lab

Mugwort Calming Cleanser 150ml

$14.00

A rinse-off cleanser built around mugwort (150 ml). Lather with water, massage gently over damp skin and rinse.

Keep in mind: any formula can irritate some people. Check the ingredient list and stop if it stings or burns.

2 Β· Moisturize (richer option)

Round Lab

1025 Dokdo Cream 80ml

$29.00

A cream for skin that wants a richer layer of moisture. The manufacturer’s formula lists glycerin, ceramides and panthenol.

Keep in mind: a rich cream is not a universal starter choice for oily or acne-prone skin. Choose a lighter texture if that feels better.

3 Β· Protect (touch-ups)

Abib

Quick Sunstick Protection Bar SPF50+ 22g

$27.00

A sunscreen stick (22 g) made for quick touch-ups, listed as SPF 50+. Easy to toss in a sports bag or backpack.

Keep in mind: follow the label for how much to use and when to reapply, especially after sweating or swimming. No sunscreen is waterproof.

Examples are not a guarantee of suitability for every age or skin type. Read the current package directions, introduce one item at a time, and ask for help when needed. Product details and ingredient lists can change. Under 18? Ask a parent or guardian before you order.

NOT YET

Skip for now

Real talk: some stuff is a hard pass for now. These show up all over social media, but they’re not what your skin needs right now, and some can make things worse.

Not yet

Retinol and β€œanti-aging”

Why
They’re made for adult skin concerns and can dry out and irritate teen skin.
Instead
Sunscreen every day. If acne is the reason you want one, talk to a doctor first. An acne gel with a retinoid called adapalene is sold without a prescription for ages 12 and up, but a doctor or pharmacist can help you start safely, and you should avoid sunburn while using it.

Strong acids and peels

Why
High-strength exfoliating acids and peeling masks can sting, peel and make breakouts worse.
Instead
A gentle cleanser. For pimples, one low-strength acne product with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, used as the label says.
ExampleMugwort Calming Cleanser 150mlRound Lab Β· $14.00

Hard pass

DIY fixes

Why
Toothpaste and baking soda can dry out and irritate your skin, and they don’t treat acne.
Instead
A product made for acne, or ask a doctor.

Hands off

Picking and popping

Why
Squeezing can push the pimple deeper, make it more inflamed and raise the chance of scars.
Instead
Leave it alone, keep washing gently, and use a spot treatment if you have one.

Do you

Copying influencer shelves

Why
Dermatologists point out that not every trend suits every teen’s skin. More products means more chances to react.

Before adding anything, ask: what job does this do for my skin? If you can’t say, skip it. Start with the three-job shelf.

The questions behind the skincare videos.

First routines. Breakouts. Ingredients you keep seeing online. Search a word or pick a topic, then open a question for a clear answer and its source.

Getting startedWhat should my first routine be?

Keep it manageable: a gentle cleanser, a moisturizer, and broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher for daytime. You can start with products you already own. Add a treatment only for a specific need, rather than because a video uses it.

Getting startedDo I need a 10-step K-beauty routine?

No. Korean skincare is not a requirement to use ten products. A cleanser, moisturizer, and daytime sunscreen are a useful starting point. Toner, essence, masks, and serums are optional; you do not have to buy them to have a routine.

Getting startedHow often should I wash my face?

Use a gentle cleanser, lukewarm water, and your fingertips. Avoid scrubbing. Wash after sweating; for dry or sensitive skin, an evening cleanse may be enough on ordinary days. Adjust to comfort rather than trying to make skin feel squeaky-clean.

Getting startedDo I need moisturizer if my skin is oily?

Oily skin can still benefit from moisturizer. Look for a texture you find comfortable; an oil-free or non-comedogenic label can help when choosing for acne-prone skin. A heavy cream is not everyone’s best fit.

Ingredients + trendsIs hyaluronic acid an exfoliating acid?

No. Hyaluronic acid helps hold water in the skin. The word β€œacid” does not mean it works like an exfoliating acid. You may already have hydrating ingredients such as glycerin or hyaluronic acid in your moisturizer; a separate serum is optional.

Ingredients + trendsShould I use retinol at 13?

An anti-aging retinol routine is unnecessary for most young teens. Acne medicines can include retinoids, so a blanket ban is misleading. Use an acne treatment according to its age label, with a clinician or pharmacist helping you choose when needed.

Ingredients + trendsDo I need a niacinamide serum?

No separate serum is required. Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 used in skincare, including some moisturizers. Keep the focus on a routine you can tolerate; more ingredients or a higher percentage do not automatically make it a better choice for you.

Ingredients + trendsCan I use exfoliating pads and an acid serum together?

Stacking exfoliating products can irritate skin. Start with the basics and keep unnecessary exfoliation out of a beginner routine. Salicylic acid can be used in acne treatment, but that is a reason to follow the treatment labelβ€”not to add several acid products.

BreakoutsDoes having acne mean my skin is dirty?

No. Acne involves clogged pores and other factors, including hormonal changes. Harsh washing will not scrub it away. Breakouts are common, and having them does not mean you have failed at hygiene or skincare.

BreakoutsWhat do pimple patches actually do?

Plain hydrocolloid patches can absorb fluid from some surface pimples and help keep fingers away. They do not treat every type of acne, including deep, painful bumps. Patches with added medicines have different directions; read the label.

BreakoutsCan I pop a pimple or squeeze blackheads?

Try not to. Picking and squeezing can worsen inflammation and increase the chance of marks or scars. Blackheads are not a sign that you need to scrub harder. Keep care gentle and ask for help choosing an appropriate acne treatment.

BreakoutsAre salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide okay for teens?

These ingredients are used in acne medicines, but the right choice depends on the product, its age directions, and your skin. Ask a pharmacist or clinician for help. Use the chosen treatment as directed rather than starting several new acne products together.

BreakoutsWhat about the dark marks a breakout leaves?

Marks can remain after a spot heals. Avoid picking, keep daytime sun protection consistent, and do not rush into strong peels or brightening combinations. Persistent marks, scarring, or acne that is not improving are good reasons to ask a dermatologist for help.

School + sportsDo I need sunscreen when it is cloudy?

Yesβ€”clouds do not block all UV rays. Look for broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher. Sunscreen works alongside shade and protective clothing, and needs reapplication according to its label, especially when outdoors.

School + sportsWhat sunscreen should I use for PE or sports?

Look for broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher and water resistance. The label states 40 or 80 minutes of water resistance; no sunscreen is waterproof. Follow its reapplication directions after swimming or sweating, and at least every two hours outdoors.

School + sportsWhat should I do after practice?

Gently cleanse after sweating, and change out of sweaty clothes when you can. Pat sweat with a clean towel instead of rubbing. If you return outdoors, reapply sunscreen according to its label. Extra scrubbing is not the answer.

School + sportsHow do I take off makeup without overdoing it?

Remove makeup before bed and cleanse gently. If one cleanser does the job comfortably, an extra cleansing step is optional. Choose products labeled non-comedogenic or oil-free when breakouts are a concern, and avoid sleeping in makeup.

Ingredients + trendsMy skin burns or feels tight. Is that normal?

Burning, redness, or persistent tightness is not a goal. Stop a new product that is irritating your skin and tell a trusted adult. Keep care simple while you get advice; get medical help for severe or ongoing symptoms.

Getting startedHow should I try something new?

Introduce one product at a time so you can notice a reaction. The AAD suggests testing skincare on a small area first for seven to ten days. Follow the product directions and stop if irritation develops; a small-area test cannot guarantee you will not react later.

BreakoutsWhen should I ask for professional help?

Ask a trusted adult to help you see a clinician for deep or painful acne, scarring, or breakouts that are not improving with appropriate care. It is also okay to ask for help when your skin is affecting your confidence or making you worry.

Budget + parentsWhat if I have a small budget?

Start with what you already have. Spend on the basics before optional toners, masks, or serums. A higher price is not proof of a better fit. Compare the size, directions, and ingredients with an adult instead of trying to copy a whole creator’s shelf.

Budget + parentsDo I need products that say β€œfor teens”?

A teen label is not required. Choose for the job the product does, the skin’s needs, and its directions. Young skin usually does not need an adult anti-aging routine. A β€œteen” brand name also does not guarantee that every product will suit you.
